For the past three years, Matthew has worked as OneCity City Council Christine Boyle’s Policy and Communications Specialist.

Matthew has worked with Christine to develop concrete proposals to address Vancouver’s housing crisis, expanding options for non-market housing, advancing the rights of Indigenous peoples, protecting cultural business and food assets, addressing historical discrimination against the south asian community and advancing efforts to combat climate change.

Matthew is the President of the Urban Native Youth Association, one of the largest urban Indigenous organizations in the province, providing programming for Indigneous youth and their families.

Matthew has proven experience in bringing affordable housing to our city. Matthew has led a cross-government partnership to develop an Indigneous youth centre, post-secondary institution and non-market housing for Indigneous youth and their families.

Matthew has extensive experience working on a variety of cross-government issues as a Policy Analyst for the Union of BC Indian Chiefs, as an Indigenous Delegate to the United Nations and as a Board Member for the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives-BC.

Finally, Matthew is Nehithaw, Woodlands Cree, a proud member of the Lac La Ronge First Nation, he is a PhD candidate at UBC and holds a Masters and Bachelor’s Degree.

1) Creating abundant, affordable, accessible housing;
2) Establishing walkable, vibrant, inclusive, and welcoming communities;
3) Working with Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh to implement the UNDRIP within our City
