Gavin Somers
Gavin Somers (they/them) is an activist, facilitator and educator with over a decade of experience embedding anti-oppression and social justice principles into their work and personal practice. Within their role as Education Director at Out In Schools, they have worked with educators, students and families throughout BC delivering curriculum and advising on policy. Gavin believes in transparent and inclusive decision making processes, and wants to bring their skills to the VSB. Currently on parental leave with their first child, Gavin is passionate about advocating for systemic change and excited for the opportunity to make Vancouver schools a safer, more welcoming, equitable place.

1) Meet with and hear from various stakeholders (students, families, teachers, Host Nations);
2) Building trust through transparent decision making and open communication;
3) Keeping neighbourhood schools open.
